TDA Confirms El Paso Practices Can Remain Open; Resources Available

Jan 1, 2020

Yesterday, October 29, 2020, El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego ordered a two-week shutdown of nonessential businesses in El Paso to help curb the record rise in COVID-19 cases overwhelming area hospitals. Although the order’s enforceability remains uncertain, language in the order defines visiting a health care provider, including visiting a dentist, as an essential activity for individuals’ health and safety.

Recognizing dental care as essential health care is consistent with the Texas Dental Association’s (TDA) advocacy efforts to fully open all dental practices on May 1, 2020 so that Texans could access the complete range of dental services they may need.

This afternoon, TDA President Dr Jacqueline Plemons spoke with El Paso District Dental Society President Dr Krystelle Anaya about how TDA can best support the El Paso District Dental Society and its member dentists during this time.

TDA stands with El Paso dentists and encourages you to contact us if you have questions or need assistance. As a reminder, information about how to obtain emergency personal protective equipment through the Department of State Health Services’ Regional Advisory Council serving El Paso is available under TDA’s COVID-19 resources.
